Kayacam Marine-Grade Camera Mount

Boaters and paddlers can now confidently take “Kiss Your Katch” photos even while angling alone, as Kayalu’s new portable marine-grade camera mount can be secured to the deck of a boat, kayak or similarly unstable surface.

Capable of supporting a compact camera or mini-video recorder on its mast, the Kayacam clips to an eyelet, deck loop or pad eye, eliminating the need for permanent brackets or other alterations to the watercraft. Kayacam’s ball-and-socket head provides the camera with an extensive range of motion and offers a quick-locking handle to maintain camera position.

Kayacam’s technology features a tension-based attachment system, with a flexible cable passing through the camera mount’s mast that is clipped to the boat or kayak, pulled taut and cinched on a jam cleat on the mast.

The camera mount overcomes problems that typically face suction-cup and pole-based mounting systems, with a foam base that adapts to contours and imperfections on the deck, cushions the camera from impacts and protects the boat or kayak from being scratched or marred.

Kayacam’s list price is $49.95. For more information, visit www.kayalu.com.

Catch Long-Range Fishing Fever ‘At the Rail and in the Skiff’

San Diego’s summer long-range fishing boats venture from 50 to 500 miles south of Point Loma, and anglers never know what they will find biting in those offshore waters. Join The Log/FishRap contributor Bill Roecker and two dozen anglers on the Thom Hultgen Memorial with chartermaster George Daniels and experts from Bloodydecks.com in the new DVD “At the Rail and in the Skiff” as they fish nearby for bluefin and albacore. Top long-range skipper Andy Cates of Red Rooster III calls the shots as the group runs south to Thetis Bank, for wide-open yellowtail surface fishing. See what skiff fishing for bass is like at Cedros Island, then check out the lunker kelp bass bite on plastic swimbaits in the kelp holes -- with so many bulldog bass that any armchair angler watching this DVD would swear his or her arms were getting tired. The DVD runs 65 minutes and it is priced at $19,95, plus $5 shipping. For details, www.fishingvideos.com.
